This scarf tells the story of Khusrau and Shirin, written by the 12th Century poet Nizami. Paintings by the 16th Century artist Shaikh Zada show (from the left) Khusrau espies Shirin bathing in a pool, and falls in love with her; Shirin meets the sculptor Farhad, who also loves her; the text narrates a dream that Khusrau has; Khusrau and Shirin are betrothed (Farhad dies of a broken heart); and finally Khusrau is King. The original art work is now with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City.
