This portrait of a young woman holding daisies is by the Persian painter Muhammad Heravi (“Heravi” meaning “from Herat”). He was active in the mid-16th century, and his delicate and elegant portrait style was later adapted by the more famous painter Reza Abbasi. The page bears the stamp (top centre) of the fifth Safavid dynasty ruler Shah Abbas I (r. 1588–1629), indicating that it once formed part of his royal collection. It is now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
