From Text-to-Clay is part of Vera van der Berg’s research into reflective AI practices in design, treating artificial intelligence as a material to be explored, deconstructed and reinterpreted. Van der Berg trained an AI model on her ceramic works to translate emotional prompts into form, which were then reinterpreted and recreated in clay before being reintroduced into the system.
This iterative process creates a feedback loop between human making and machine logic, where each informs and distorts the other. Rather than aiming for precision, the work embraces unpredictability, using AI as a critical mirror that reveals assumptions in both digital and material processes.
