SungJun Park is a woodcraft artist whose practice explores interweaving as both structure and concept. Working with materials such as rattan, cord, rope and wire, he investigates how tension, resistance and connection shape form, drawing on material cultures developed through his studies in Korea.
Canyon Land Scenery Side Table explores the tension between structure and fluidity through layered making processes and combined materials. Rattan is reinforced with wire to maintain dynamic woven forms over time, while a carved laminated wood top contrasts with the light, void-like weave below. Inspired by canyon formations, the piece reflects gradual processes of accumulation and erosion, balancing heaviness and lightness in a unified composition.
