Deep drawing is the industrial process that presses flat sheet into seamless forms: drinks cans, kitchen sinks. Its worst enemy is wrinkling. These ashtrays run the process the other way. A silver sheet is pressed into a mould, removed, turned over and pressed through again, inside out. The tolerances are left so loose that the metal flares and creases as it goes, and no two pieces press identical. What the factory would throw away is the object.
