Blue Hands is a handwoven, hand-dyed ikat textile that fades from blue to white. Drawing inspiration from Japanese Kasuri weaving, Glasgow-based weaver Nell Burgess explores the intricate process of resist-dyeing threads before weaving. Building on her knowledge of natural colour production, she has developed a distinctive small-scale ikat technique, dyeing threads across both the warp and weft to create reverberating patterns that travel across the cloth. Through this careful, considered process, Burgess introduces organic movement into the textile, reflecting her wider interest in traditional craft techniques and the relationship between landscape, material and colour.
