Lubomír Kuča is the founder of Maalström Studio, a Prague-based woodcraft studio creating hand-turned objects with strong emotional and material presence. His work transforms discarded and imperfect wood into lasting objects that honour simplicity, imperfection and quiet material stories.
Conny was turned from green walnut wood with a deteriorated pith. Rather than concealing this flaw, the pith was removed and a lateral opening was introduced, allowing a view into the vessel from an unexpected angle, like looking through a window into a roofless structure. The form expands toward the base, emphasizing weight and grounding. Finished with wood stain to preserve its raw texture, the piece was made from a walnut tree felled due to illness.
