Filet Lace in Cotton Thread
Jingyi Li is a London-based interdisciplinary artist working with textiles, fibre, and sculptural forms. Lean on Me, Lean on Me is a textile-based sculptural work created using filet lace techniques. Two intertwined chairs lean into one another, their overlapping forms resembling two bodies locked in an embrace. Through this simple yet intimate gesture, the work reflects on human connection, emotional dependence, and support that emerge within intimate relationships.
Traditionally associated with domestic labour and femininity, lace becomes both material and metaphor within the work. The delicate woven structure contrasts with the solidity of the chairs, creating a tension between fragility and stability. The work explores how intimacy can be embedded within everyday objects and gestures, revealing relationships through the physical act of leaning towards another person.
