The pieces are the result of Nicola's on-going study into the interaction of form and surface over time. They are inspired by a recent trip to the Yucatan and a visit to a ‘lost hacienda’, which was becoming a romantic ruin made more beguiling by decay and neglect. The structure, internal surfaces and the encroaching landscape are all slowly merging and reforming to create something new and endlessly fascinating. The work reflects an obsession with her own fragmented and constantly reforming memories of her visit to the hacienda and the beauty to be found in ageing and decay.
