The form of this piece is inspired by stinkhorn mushrooms (Clathrus ruber), with its root reimagined as a vessel. Using ancient hand-building ceramic techniques, Danning aims for these vessels to evoke a sense of ritual significance. The internal lava glaze is fragile and untouchable, filling the inner space like a living entity. The unglazed upper part appears soft, while the glazed lower part is swollen and solid. A wooden base under ‘Organic Container: Expansion’ enhances its natural qualities, adding a sense of monumentality. In ‘Organic Container: Emergence’, the upper section retains a bumpy surface, while the lower part emphasises the natural flow of the glaze. The narrow base gives the vessel a sense of growth.
