Cast glass
Realm of Light explores the relationship between architecture, light and our emotional experience of place. Cast glass allows Maestri to sculpt in three-dimensional suspended colour that transforms as light shifts, each piece built from plaster sledged into form, then cast in glass frit using the lost-wax process. The trapped air bubbles catch and diffuse light, giving the works their distinctive luminosity as they move through successive stages, from plaster to mould to glass.
