Materials
Three original Thonet chairs from the early 1900s
The Lovers Chair by Andrea Zambelli is created from original bentwood chairs by Michael Thonet, long admired for their essential design and pioneering wood-bending technique. Sourced from flea markets across Europe, the timeworn chairs, often fragile or partially damaged, are carefully deconstructed.
Irreparable elements are removed, while the remaining solid components are reassembled into hybrid structures in which each part supports the other, transforming fragility into renewed strength. The result is a series of small benches and unique seating pieces, each shaped by the character of the reclaimed material. Handwoven Vienna straw completes the work, restoring dignity and new life to objects marked by time.
