As Japan's deep-rooted culture and history have been fading in recent years, Kazuki Nagasawa seeks to reevaluate their value and propose into products that incorporate new ideas and environmental considerations while harmonising with contemporary lifestyles. The 'JUHI SERIES', born from a deep engagement with the value of traditional culture, aspires to pass on culture and history to the next generation, contributing to regional revitalization and ensuring that Japan’s unique aesthetic sensibility continues into the future.
Kazuki uses Trachycarpus fortunei bark, which has been treasured since before the Edo period as a substitute for nylon and vinyl and has been widely used in various traditional crafts. By combining the traditional dyeing technique of persimmon tannin solution, which has been passed down since ancient times, with an iron mordant solution extracted from discarded iron scraps, they have made it possible to express colours that reflect the natural landscape and create diverse forms.
