Reclaimed Douglas Fir, waste stoneware clay, London clay
Vernacular Ceramics positions clay as an active collaborator, with its inherent properties, limitations, and responses shaping the form and outcome. The Bench and Table are made using locally sourced waste clay from London ceramic workshops and industrial excavation sites, shaped through recycled plaster moulds, extrusion, and hand-building.
Informed by vernacular architecture, the project prioritises domestic function and familiarity over monumentality. Through material-led investigation and iterative making, the work explores how ceramic objects can foster a closer, more considered relationship between maker and material.
