Yuna Kim is a London-based kiln-formed glass artist. Her work primarily explores the relationship between nature, light, and shadow. The Vestige series explores Kim's boundary between presence and absence. Drawing on philosopher John Locke’s idea that we perceive only the qualities of objects, not their underlying substance, this work questions how we define existence. The form of a jar, traditionally a vessel for holding, is rendered in fragile glass frits, unable to contain anything. Stripped of function yet still recognisable, the jar invites reflection on how memory, experience, and perception shape our understanding of what remains..
