Job van den Berg’s fascination with crushing toy cars goes way back. As a child, he used to crush small toy cars in a bench vice, and the deformed cars opened up new imaginary scenarios when he played. Now, years later, he controls six million kilograms of force with an eight-meter-high hydraulic press. The curious child in him couldn’t resist, so it didn’t take long before the first toy cars were crushed.

What he loves about pressing cars is that no two results are ever the same. Even when he crushes identical models, each outcome is unique. The carefully curated input, combined with the machine’s unpredictable brutal force, always creates a one-of-a-kind art piece.
