The style and subject of Youth with Pears are emblematic of the master painter Reza Abbasi, who is renowned for his depictions of languorous youths. His style and choice of subject reflect the tastes of the court of Shah Abbas I in Isfahan, a city famed for its luxurious palaces and gardens that attracted visitors from across the world. The painting is signed below the figure and to the right of the fruit with the inscription “Reza drew it,” and is now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
