Part of the ongoing Lazy Swim series, SQUISHY – AME explores places of longing, leisure, and imagined escape through the visual language of the swimming pool. Inspired by wet bathing towels left hanging after a swim, the work captures a moment of suspension—waiting for a drying that may never come.
Like other works in the series, the piece transforms a familiar object into something ambiguous and contemplative. What appears soft and temporary is, in fact, carefully constructed through a labor-intensive process. Technical fabric is stretched, painted, and pressed with silicone before being shaped and assembled by hand, creating a sculptural object that exists between painting, textile, and furniture.
Evoking memories of summer, rest, and absence, SQUISHY – AME reflects on the power of everyday objects to hold dreams, desires, and the traces of lived experience.
