‘Tsuguki’ is inspired by Japanese restoration of historical wooden architecture. Beams reclaimed from hundred-year-old farm barns are processed by hand and joined with new wood to create sculptural furniture, giving them a second life while keeping their histories.
‘Tsugiki’ means continuation of wood in Japanese. In this project, it symbolizes the transformation of wood that constitutes a coherent history. The juxtaposition of old and new tells an honest story of the past. It is also an exploration of ‘repair’ and ‘care’ in art practice.
