Dawn Benedick is an American Designer and artist, based in the UK, her work explores the relationship between time and light through boulder-like stacked multitone glass. Benedick has a strong academic background within glasswork and lighting design, she has vast experience, working with experts within these disciplines.
She first studied the Josef Albers approach to colour theory at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, where her strong academic began to form the basis of her craft. She later went on to further study at Central Saint Martins in London, where she received an MA in Material Futures. Her research focussed on the effect of sunlight on our circadian rhythms. Taking an almost scientific approach to her glasswork, she developed a lighting system that mimicked sunlight rays, to shine through her glass. Much of her work is inspired by natural light, which she combines this with artificial light in an experimental process to observe changes in colour within her glass sculptures.
